#guide · AI SDRs

What is an AI SDR?

An AI SDR is software that does a sales development rep’s early work: it finds companies, researches them, writes outreach and follows up. Products differ most in who approves each message. Some work without supervision, some offer an approve-first mode, and some require a person to approve before anything sends.

#the job

What an AI SDR does. And what it leaves to people.

A sales development rep (SDR) finds and qualifies new conversations for a sales team. An AI SDR takes over the parts that are repetitive: building a list, researching each company, writing the first email and follow-ups, sending them, sorting replies and offering times for a call.

Where products split is the line between drafting and deciding. Aries Leads, a lead generation firm, puts it this way:

Offer strategy, segmentation, final message approval, objection handling, and client communication should remain human-owned.

Approval is common, so it is not a reason to pick one tool on its own. Ask which messages it covers (first emails, follow-ups, replies, LinkedIn), whether it can be switched off, and who in your team does it.

#the honest part

Are AI SDRs worth it? It depends on what you count.

They save research and writing time. Whether they are worth it depends on what they produce after the reply. Two things make that hard to see.

Generic messages at volume. Aries Leads: "Full automation tends to increase generic messaging and reduce control. Agencies get better results when they automate repetitive work and keep judgment-heavy tasks human."[9]

Counting the wrong thing. Many tools report replies or "opportunities". Instantly, for example, counts opportunities from leads "ever marked as positive, even if their status was later changed to negative", valued at an amount you set.[10] Count calls held and clients who paid instead.

#comparison

AI SDR vs human SDR.

A human SDR has median on-target earnings of $80,000 ($55,000 base, $25,000 variable) in the Bridge Group’s 2025 report, before benefits, tools and a manager’s time, with around three months to ramp.[11] A person calls, handles objections live and reads the room. Software does the research, the first drafts and the reply sorting, at any hour, and does not call.

Many teams use both: software for the work under the job, a person for judgement and calls. Sealrep vs hiring an SDR goes through when each makes sense.

#checklist

What to ask a vendor.

  1. Who approves each message, and can that be switched off by anyone on the team?
  2. Whose mailboxes and domains send: yours, or ones the vendor sells you?
  3. What does it do on LinkedIn, and whose account does it use?
  4. What does the dashboard count as a result: a reply, a "positive" reply, a meeting held, or a payment?
  5. What do the terms say about refunds and cancelling? Most tools we read say payments are not refunded.
#where we fit

Where Sealrep fits. And where it does not.

Sealrep is an approval-first AI revenue agent: a reply can carry a payment link from your own Stripe, and a results ledger counts from first email to cash. Nothing is sent until a person approves it: one email at a time, or a whole sequence at once, with undo before each send. On LinkedIn, X and Reddit it finds and drafts, and you send. Does Sealrep send email without my approval? has the detail.

It is not a fit if you want software to send on its own at high volume: it has no setting for that today.

Questions people ask. Answered straight.

what is an AI SDR agent?

The same thing: software that researches accounts, writes outreach and follows up in place of a sales development rep’s early work. "Agent" usually means it can take actions, such as sending, not only draft.

do AI SDRs work?

They do the research and writing. Whether they win clients depends on the list, the offer and who handles replies. Judge one by calls held and clients paid, not by emails sent or replies.

how much does an AI SDR cost?

On 2 October 2026: AiSDR from $250 a month, Salesforge’s Agent Frank $599 a month billed quarterly ($499 billed annually), Amplemarket from $600 a month on an annual term; Artisan and 11x showed no public price. Prices can change.

what should stay human in an AI SDR workflow?

Aries Leads lists "Offer strategy, segmentation, final message approval, objection handling, and client communication". Calls and the decision to send are the parts most teams keep.
